Vietnam chairs high-level ECOSOC dialogue

(VOVworld) – Le Hoai Trung, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, chaired a Monday high-level dialogue of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York.

Themed “The changing development landscape: what does it mean for the UN system?”, the dialogue aims to draw up an agenda for a plenary ECOSOC session scheduled for February 24-26. It also addressed a post-2015 agenda focused on sustainable development for the UN’s Development activities.
Ambassador Trung said this is the first time that the Council has held an exclusive session on the UN’s development co-operation. Representatives of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) described Vietnam as a success story. Vietnam’s role has been praised by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and leaders of the UN Funds and Programs. Kanni Wignaraja, Director of the UN Development Operations Coordination Office (DOCO), said Vietnam is a rapidly developing economy and it is making every effort to keep the balance of a sustainable development. Vietnam is currently a middle income nation which has made a significant contribution to other developing economies.
