(VOVworld) – Vietnam has contributed significantly to the success of the 7th summit of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) and the 6th summit of the Ayeyawadi-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS). Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son reported to the press the results of the summits attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on June 22 and 23 in Myanmar. He said Vietnam’s proposals to increase cooperation, expand economic development, and improve competitiveness were lauded by the participants. Deputy Foreign Minister Son said the leaders agreed to bolster cooperation in prioritised fields to improve the economic competitiveness, expand regional and global production chains, and take advantage of new development opportunities created by the ASEAN Economic Community and free trade agreements to narrow the development gaps within ASEAN.

The Deputy Minister said the summits gave leaders an opportunity to renew their determination to foster comprehensive cooperation, solidarity, and friendship. The events underlined the importance of collaboration and connectivity in economics, transportation and tourism.

Participants praised and pledged to expand the one-stop-shop model, which has been effectively implemented between Vietnam and Laos, Son said, noting that the success of this model will help boost trade between Vietnam and the other nations.

CLMV and ACMECS members expressed their interest in partnering with Vietnam in its strongest field – agriculture – while acknowledging its assistance in human resource development, a prerequisite for close collaboration in education and training between Vietnam and the others, he said.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung briefed other leaders on Vietnam’s plan to collaborate with the World Economic Forum in organizing a business dialogue on the sub-Mekong region on the sidelines of the CLMV and ACMECS summits in 2016.
