President Tran Dai Quang and Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome co-chair the press conference following the talk.

 Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang who is on a 3-day state visit to Ethiopia, praised the country’s role and contributions as a member of the African Union and the United Nations, including peacekeeping activities, to help ensure security and stability in the region.

Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome said he believes Mr. Quang’s visit will create new momentum for the relationship.

The two leaders said the fine traditional friendship between Vietnam and Ethiopia has created a firm foundation to boost economics, trade, and investment.

They agreed to provide favorable conditions for investing and doing business in each other’s markets, specify suitable payment measures to support businesses, increase market surveys, and share policy information.

They also agreed to step up delegation exchanges at all levels, cooperation between their parliaments and localities, and people-to-people, cultural and sports exchanges to boost mutual understanding.

President Quang said at a press conference following the talks: “We are determined to continue supporting each other to reach development targets for the sake of progress and prosperity in Asia and Africa within the framework of the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the South-South Cooperation. Vietnam congratulates Ethiopia on its contributions as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council during the 2017-2018 term to global peace, stability, and development.”

The same day, President Quang met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who said the two sides should make better use of Vietnam’s experience in agriculture to help Ethiopia ensure food security.
