Vietnam Ethnic Groups Cultural Day opens

(VOVworld) - The Vietnam Ethnic Groups Cultural Day opened in Hanoi on Friday. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, Secretary of Hanoi’s Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi and 150 representatives of the 54 ethnic groups across the country attended the opening ceremony.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh said this day honors the cultural values of the country’s ethnic groups and strengthen national unity. He added that the day also reflects the Party and State’s concern for the socio-economic development of ethnic minority people: "This Day has been celebrated over the past 5 years to promote the preservation of cultural identity, economic development, poverty reduction, and environmental protection" 
This year’s event also kicked off Vietnam’s Family Year 2013 under the theme “Viet Cultural Identity”.
