Vietnam Foreign Ministry protests China’s firing at fishing boat

(VOVworld) - A spokesperson for Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Vietnam resolutely protests and demands that China  investigate and strictly deal with its wrong and inhuman acts of chasing and firing at a Vietnamese fishing boat. Asked about Vietnam’s reaction over the March 20 incident in which the fishing boat QNg 96382 TS  of  fishermen from Quang Ngai province was chased and its cabin was fired by Chinese vessels in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi said the grave incident violates Vietnam’s territorial sovereignty over Hoang Sa islands, threatens the life and damages the property of Vietnamese fishermen. Nghi added that such acts seriously violate international laws,  the agreement on the basic principles guiding the settlement of sea issues between Vietnam and China, and are contrary to the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). Vietnam resolutely protests and demands that China strictly deal with those acts and compensate Vietnamese fishermen, said the spokesman. On Monday, Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry handed  a diplomatic note to a representative of the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi to object to the Chinese acts.
