Vietnam hopes to boost cooperation with Spain, South Korea, Japan

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called on Portugal to push the European Union to sign and ratify the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) to facilitate economic-trade relations between the two countries.

Mr. Phuc gave a reception for Portugal’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Teresa Ribeiro in Hà Nội on Thursday.  

Ms. Ribeiro said Portuguese firms are interested in Vietnam, particularly in tourism and hotels, renewable energy and water management. She expressed her belief that the EVFTA will be signed next year, opening up a new chapter for the Vietnam – Portugal relationship.

Receiving Chey Tae-won, Chairman of the SK Group of the Republic of Korea the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the Vietnamese government is committed to creating favorable conditions for the SK Group to invest effectively in Vietnam.

Chey expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and spoke highly of Vietnam’s policies to support private enterprises.

At a reception for President of the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hiroshi Ozaki on Thursday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Vietnam wants Osaka firms to expand operations in Vietnam, especially in farm produce processing and distribution, support industries, health care, and technology transfer. The Prime Minister praised the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s cooperation with Vietnam. Ozaki said Osaka firms seek opportunities in advanced eco-friendly technology, urban development, and energy and are eager to partner with Vietnam in the exploitation and processing of aquatic products, health care, and tourism.
