(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam pursues both national and common regional interests as well as a consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation of relations, and international integration.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh made the remark at an international conference on the Indian Ocean in Hanoi on Monday. The two-day event, themed “Building Regional Architecture,” focused on emerging regional architecture and promoting cooperation between stakeholders in the region in building trust, respecting international law, and settling disputes in a peaceful manner, as well as maritime management and handling non-traditional threats.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Minh stressed the emergence of the Indo-Asian-Pacific as a unified entity, adding that the heightened level of exchanges in economic, political and cultural areas is the new driver propelling the Asian century to become the Indo-Asian-Pacific century.
The conference was attended by 280 delegates from 43 countries, including Sri Lanka's Prime Minister, India's External Affairs Minister, and Singapore's Minister of Foreign Affairs. The event was organised by the India Foundation in association with the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, the S Rajaratnam School, and the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies.
