Vietnam, Indonesia agree to increase bilateral trade to 10 billion USD

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Indonesian President Joko Widodo have stressed the need to create breakthroughs in bilateral economic cooperation, making it the main pillar of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia.

During their talks in Bali, Indonesia, on Friday, the leaders exchanged views on orientations to deepen the bilateral ties and elevate cooperation between the two countries to a new high, bringing tangible benefits to their people. They agreed to increase bilateral trade to 10 billion USD by facilitating market access for each other’s goods, reducing technical barriers, simplifying customs procedures and closely cooperating in product origin inspection and quarantine. 

The two leaders stressed the need to further strengthen maritime cooperation, and agreed to assign the two countries’ competent agencies to study the establishment of a marine cooperation mechanism to discuss related cooperation. They shared their visions on and committed to increasing cooperation and coordination at international forums. 

After the talks, Prime Minister Phuc and President Widodo held a joint international press conference, announcing their talks’ outcomes. Mr. Widodo thanked Mr. Phuc for his attention to the Indonesian investors in Vietnam and praised Vietnam’s cooperation and settlement of problems related to car imports from Indonesia. President Widodo called on Indonesian entrepreneurs to be more active in seeking business opportunities in the potential-rich Vietnamese market.

Prime Minister Phuc said that after Mr. Widodo’s State visit to Vietnam in September, his ongoing visit to Indonesia demonstrates the mutual trust and determination of the two governments to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries. He said: “We have agreed to create new breakthroughs and make economic cooperation a pillar of our strategic partnership, increase bilateral trade revenue to 10 billion USD towards balanced trade, create more favorable conditions for dialogues between business and between businesses and the government, and support small and medium-sized enterprises.”

PM Phuc said Vietnam and Indonesia pledged to work closely together to seize development opportunities, and continue to build an ASEAN community of unity, reform, creativity, self-reliance, and playing a central role in regional structure.
