Vietnam, Indonesia aim at 10 billion USD in bilateral trade

(VOVWORLD) -Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Tuesday had separate meetings with Speaker of the People’s Representative Council of Indonesia Setya Novanto and Speaker of Indonesia’s Regional Representative Council Oesman Sapta Odang in Jakarta as part of his official visit to Indonesia.

Mr. Trong and Mr. Novanto stressed the important role of both Vietnam and Indonesia in ASEAN, saying the countries are trustworthy partners of each other, and share many similar interests and viewpoints. They agreed to boost bilateral trade to 8 billion USD in 2018 and 10 billion USD in the near future.

Party leader Trong and Speaker Oesman Sapta Odang shared the view that deepening the bilateral strategic partnership not only satisfies the benefits of the two peoples but also contributes to building an ASEAN of solidarity, unity and strength.

They added that the development of cooperation between their State power agencies at central and local levels as well as between groups of parliamentarians will help increase the operational efficiency of Vietnam’s National Assembly and Indonesia’s legislative bodies. This will also contribute to increasing political trust and reinforcing bilateral friendship and cooperation.

Speaker Odang pledged to make active contributions to enhancing the two nations’ multidimensional cooperative ties, including experience exchanges in monitoring the government’s activities and boosting cooperation among localities such as Hanoi and Jakarta.
