Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia discuss removing border trade barriers

(VOVWORLD) -Senior officials from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodian have discussed ways to remove barriers to boost trade and investment between 17 border provinces of the 3 countries.

Their discussion on Kratie, Cambodia, on Saturday was part of the 12th meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee on the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area. Participants said although border trade between the 3 countries has make significant progress, there remain differences in control of humans, goods, and vehicles. Vo Van Chung, Deputy Head of the Foreign Investment Department under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, said 13 provinces of the Development Triangle Area need to address these problems to avoid being left behind.

 On Saturday, senior officials of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam met in the framework of the Joint Coordination Committee on the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area. A local committee of the 5 Vietnamese provinces  proposed devising a socio-economic master plan, establishing a biodiversity corridor in border areas, calling on investors to develop transport infrastructure, and organizing investment promotion conferences to call on investors from Cambodia to invest in Binh Phuong, Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Kon Tum of Vietnam.
