VFF Vice President Cao Van Chong says the recent FIFA conference in Turkey considered the possibility and feasibility of increasing the size of the 2022 World Cup from 32 to 48. Nine out of twelve of the world’s leading football organizations voted for the idea, saying it offers opportunities for promising teams like Vietnam. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said such an expansion is both possible and feasible and the number of Asian teams competing for the World Cup would rise.
