Vietnam participates in UN General Assembly meetings

(VOVWORLD) - The rule of law at the national and global levels is important to ensuring peace, promoting sustainable development, and protecting human rights, said Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN at a meeting of the 73rd UN General Assembly’s Sixth Committee (Legal Committee) on Monday.

Ambassador Quy said Vietnam has made dramatic progress in building its legal system, in judicial reform, and in enhancing its legal protection of human rights. He added that Vietnam has proactively participated in the codification and development of international law and was one of the first 10 countries to sign and ratify the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

At a meeting of the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee (Economic and Financial Committee), Ambassador Pham Thi Kim Anh, Deputy Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN, said Vietnam is committed to the Working Party 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. She said Vietnam has called for joint efforts to mobilize resources to fulfill the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Ms. Anh called on developed countries to help developing countries in science and technology, particularly in technology transfers, capacity upgrading, and information sharing. She also called for a uniform and creative implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
