Dung told a meeting in Hanoi on Saturday to cope with storm Pakhar that the program should focus on flash flood and land slide prevention, sustainable livelihoods, and forest protection.

“We need to prepare all possible measures to minimize the loss of life and property caused by storm Pakhar. Agencies involved must ensure maximal safety for vessels operating in areas to be hit by the storm. People in the affected areas must also be evacuated, " Deputy PM Dung said.

Pakhar is forecast to cause heavy rains in Vietnam’s northern region from Monday.
