Vietnam proposes to strengthen AIPA status

(VOVWORLD) -The 38th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly, themed “ASEAN and AIPA: Partnering for Inclusive Change”, opened on Saturday in Manila, the Philippines.

Vietnam’s National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong delivered a keynote at the first plenary session which included proposals for the development of AIPA and ASEAN.

She said AIPA should work closely with ASEAN to raise people’s awareness on the importance and practicality of AIPA activities and its position in the development of the ASEAN Community.

AIPA should promote parliamentary diplomacy in national diplomacy, support ASEAN’s central role by raising ASEAN principles and norms and international laws, and improve the efficiency of AIPA and ASEAN leaders’ annual meetings.
