(VOVworld) - Vietnam upholds its consistent policy of fostering people’s fundamental rights, including the rights of women. Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh responded to the press’s inquiry into Vietnam’s view about the US State Department’s International Women of Courage Award granted to Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh, known as blogger Mother Mushroom.

He was speaking in a press briefing on Thursday: “Vietnam pursues its consistent policy of protecting and promoting people’s fundamental rights, including rights of the women. Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in human rights protection and improvement have been highly appreciated by the community. The US award given to an individual in detention for investigation of Vietnamese law violation is unobjective, irrelevant and unbeneficial to the development of bilateral relations.”

The spokesman commented on civil protection regarding a Vietnamese child murdered in Japan: “Right after the incident, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan has worked with Japanese agencies to ask for investigation. We believe that the murderer would be arrested shortly and face the weight of justice. This is sad news for all of us. Vietnam strongly denounced this appalling inhuman act and sent our heartfelt condolence to the victim family.”

Regarding information on China and the Philippines’ bilateral talks on the East Sea issue, Vietnam welcomed parties’ peaceful negotiation in line with international law. Bilateral disputes should be resolved by bilateral talks while multilateral disputes must be settled through multilateral talks.
