(VOVworld) – Vietnam marked the 2016 Earth Day in Hanoi on April 22. Themed “Clean water, strong economy”, the annual event aims to boost the involvement of the community in controlling and preventing water pollution toward gradually improving water resources from serious to less serious contamination.

Nearly 1,000 volunteers participated in this year’s program. Hoang Van Thuc, deputy director of Vietnam environment administration, spoke highly of the participation of the community in the environmental protection and supervision including that for water resources. On this occasion, the Center for Environment and Community Research in line with the Clean Water Coalition launched a writing contest on Vietnam’s lakes and rivers.
