Vietnam, Russia strengthen defense cooperation

(VOVworld)- Vietnam and Russia convened the second defense strategy dialogue at deputy ministerial level in Moscow on Monday to discuss strengthening bilateral defense ties. Deputy Defense Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the event.

The two sides discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern including recent tensions in the East Sea. They hailed the bilateral strategic dialogue as a step in implementing the comprehensive strategic partnership, in which national defense-security cooperation plays a significant role. They agreed to further bilateral cooperation in national defense. Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said:“We treasure today’s meeting between Vietnamese and Russian military officials. The meeting is an important event in the two countries’ dialogues contributing to bilateral strategic partnership. Russia considers Vietnam a strategic partner and an important bridge linking Russia and ASEAN who will celebrate 20 years of relations this year. Vietnam and Russia’s friendship and cooperation have been tested with time and our efforts”.
