Vietnam seeks to boost comprehensive cooperation with Ireland

Deputy Prime Minister Dung met with Irish President Michael Dabiel Higgins, Minister of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine Michael Creed, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Charles Flanagan.

Deputy Prime Minister Dung assured President Higgins that the Vietnamese Government treasures and wants to bolster its friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Ireland. President Higgins pledged to boost cooperation with Vietnam in renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, climate change adaption, and other sectors with strong potential.

During his meeting with Minister Creed, Deputy PM Dung urged Ireland to support Vietnamese products to penetrate the Irish and European markets.  Minister Creed said Ireland is eager to strengthen co-operation with Vietnam in dairy, pharmaceuticals, and meat processing, adding that Ireland will support the EU-Vietnam relationship.

Meeting with Minister Charles Flanagan, Deputy Prime Minister Dung urged him to encourage the EU to ratify the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and recognize Vietnam’s market economy. The two ministers agreed to work together to identify priorities for co-operation in the 2017-2020 period, and Flanagan pledged Ireland's assistance to Vietnam in socio-economic development, poverty reduction, and climate change adaption.
