Vietnam to expand activities in UN peacekeeping mission

(VOVworld) - Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, led a high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation to the sixth Moscow Conference on International Security on Wednesday and Thursday.

In his speech at the third plenary of the conference on benefit balancing and violent conflicts in Asia-Pacific, Mr. Huong underlined the important role of international military cooperation and proposed new ways of military cooperation among ASEAN countries. He said Vietnam considers joining UN peacekeeping activities an important and continuous mission.

“Vietnam is proactive in regional and global organizations and cooperative mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of these agencies in preserving security and handling conflicts,” said Huong, adding: “Since 2014 Vietnam has been part of the UN peacekeeping force, demonstrating its sense of responsibility and desire to maintain peace, security, and stability in the world. Vietnam will increase its involvement in UN peacekeeping activities.”
