Vietnam, US boost customs cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and the US discussed measures to boost customs cooperation on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council in Brussels, Belgium, late last week.

Nguyen Van Can, Head of the General Department of Vietnam Customs held a bilateral meeting with US Customs and Border Protection’s Deputy Commissioner Robert Perez.

The two sides informed each other of the completion of internal procedures in preparation for the signing of a government-level agreement on customs cooperation and mutual assistance. They agreed to share intelligence and customs data; strengthen cooperation in customs control; and fight transnational crimes, smuggling, and trade frauds.
