Vietnam welcomes the US’s younger generation to learn about Vietnam’s land and people, said Nguyen Tam Chien, President of the Vietnam-USA Society (VUS) at a reception Tuesday for a group of teachers and students from the US’s George School. Mr. Chien underlined the need for US youth to better understand Vietnamese goodwill in boosting bilateral cooperation in education, trade and humanitarian aid.

Ms. Cherry Ann Mellor, Head of the US delegation, said: "The main purpose of this trip is to help children understand the world. Most of our students come from fairly privileged families and it's really helpful for them to understand what they can do with their time once they leave the school. Many of our students participate in survey trips and many others actually, once they graduate, they go into nonprofit organizations and nonprofit endeavors so it's really important for them to learn about all types of people and how the world is really small. It's not the big place that they will never understand. This is one on one relationship".

The group, three teachers and eight students, is conducting a 3-week field trip in Vietnam which includes “home-stays”, volunteer activities in Hanoi and Hoa Binh, and tours to Vietnamese historical and cultural sites.
