Both leaders praised major progresses in bilateral Comprehensive Partnership. They discussed the strengthened ties between ASEAN and the US, peace, security, cooperation, and development in the region, East Sea issues, freedom of navigation, overflight, and respect of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Ambassador Vinh said Vietnam treasures the Comprehensive Partnership with the US and applauds the recent development of bilateral ties, especially the US visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc last May and the Vietnam visit by President Donald Trump last November, as well as the historic visit by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the US in July 2015.
