Vietnam vows to erase poverty

(VOVWORLD) - Poverty reduction and hunger eradication has always been one of Vietnam’s top priorities, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung told the 1st meeting of the National Steering Committee for the 10-year (2016-2025) Zero Hunger Action Program on Wednesday.

The program aims to ensure food self sufficiency and nutrition, enhance people’s physical and mental health in compliance with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 2.

The program was established in 2014 in response to the UN’s “Zero Hunger Challenge”. There are five specific targets: ensure food and nutrition for all people all year around; eradicate malnutrition among children under two; develop a sustainable food system; help small-scale farmers enjoy greater productivity and income; and stop wastefulness.
