(VOVWORLD) -Chess grandmaster Le Quang Liem won the 8th gold medal for medal for Vietnam at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) on Sunday in Turkmenistan.

Gold medalist Liem said: “My rival in the final match is an Iranian, seed No2. I thought I should draw or win him to obtain a medal. I had a safe battle and I am satisfied with the results.

The AIMAG is held from September 17 to 27. Vietnam competes in 14 of 21 sports at the event, targeting gold medals in athletics, swimming, weightlifting, wrestling, chess, billiards, kick-boxing and muay thai. The 164-member-delegation is led by Tran Duc Phan, deputy head of the National Sports Administration.
