Vietnam-China joint communiqué

(VOVworld) – Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong is paying an official visit to China from April 7 to April 10 at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping. During his visit, he held talks with Party General Secretary and President Xi and met with Prime Minister Li Keqiang, members of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of China’s Communist Party Zhang Dejiang, and Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

The leaders agreed that the visit has been a success, contributing remarkably to promoting bilateral ties and peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world. To mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the two countries vowed to pursue the motto of “friendly neighborliness, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, and future outlook and the spirit of “good neighbors, good friends, good comrades, and good partners. They also pledged to bolster the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. They also discussed maritime issues, stressing the leaders’ common awareness to implement the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues between Vietnam and China.

They agreed to effectively control sea disputes and fully implement the “Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea” and soon adopt the “Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea” on the basis of consultations and consensus, and not complicate, or expand disputes, promptly address arising problems, and maintain Vietnamese-Chinese relationships as well as peace and stability in the East Sea. Vietnam affirmed it supported the One-China policy. Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination within multilateral forums including the UN, APEC, and ASEAN-China.

During the visit, the two countries signed the “Cooperation Plan between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of China in the 2016-2020 period”, an “Agreement on Extradition Cooperation between Vietnam and China”,  an “Agreement on Tax issues concerning the Project on Joint Oil and Gas Exploration in the Tonkin Gulf”, a “Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the Working Group for Land Infrastructure Cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment and China’s National Development and Reform Commission”, “Terms of Reference for the Working Group on Financial and Monetary Cooperation between the State Bank of Vietnam and People’s Bank of China”, and a “Memorandum of Understanding on TV Film Production between Vietnam Television and China Central Television”.

Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong thanked the Chinese Party leader and President Xi Jinping and the Chinese Party, government and people for their warm welcome. He invited Chinese Party leader and President Xi Jinping to visit Vietnam and Mr. Xi Jinping accepted.
