Vietnam-France relations strengthened

(VOVWORLD) - Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong has asked the French Communist Party (PCF), with its role and prestige, to continue supporting the French administration to keep enhancing ties with Vietnam. Mr. Trong met with PCF National Secretary Pierre Laurent on Tuesday as part of his official visit to France.

The Vietnamese leader suggested regular theory discussion between the two parties and support between the two countries at regional and global forums.

In late 2018, the PCF will organize a congress marking its centenary. Mr. Laurent suggested appropriate activities be held on this occasion to honor President Ho Chi Minh, who greatly contributed to the two Communist Parties and the two nations.

The same day, Mr. Trong met with Gérard Daviot, President of the France-Vietnam Friendship Association (AAFV). He thanked French friends for their sentiment toward Vietnam and contribution to bilateral relations. Trong asked the Association and other friendship organizations in Vietnam and France to continue working for closer ties.

Party leader Trong on late Tuesday attended the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Vietnam Cultural Centre in France and met with embassy staff and Vietnamese expats there.

On Wednesday, Trong left France to pay a state visit to Cuba at the invitation of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee and President of the Councils of State and Ministers Raul Castro Ruz.
