Vietnam’s investment in hydro-meteorology hailed

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is ready to realize its international commitments on natural disaster risk reduction and mitigation, said Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung.

He was taking part in a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday with Secretary General of the World Meteorology Organization (WMO) Petteri Taalas. Mr Dung said Vietnam will effectively operate the Regional Forecast Supporting Center, prepare to become the Southeast Asian Center for Flash Flood Warning, and strengthen its role in WMO’s cooperation programs.

The Deputy Prime Minister asked WMO to support Vietnam in human resource development, capacity building in forecast, warnings, and surveillance, and enhancing international cooperation in hydro-meteorology, climate change, and other related areas.

WMO Secretary General Taalas praised the Vietnamese government’s investment in hydro-meteorology, human resource development, and modern surveillance stations. He asked Vietnam to send a permanent representative to the WMO.
