Vietnam’s poverty rate expected to drop to 6.9%

(VOVWORLD) -The average poverty rate in Vietnam is forecast to decline to 6.9% by the end of this year, a government meeting announced on Tuesday.

The meeting, which discussed national target programs on rural development and poverty reduction, announced that as of last month, more than 2,700 communes nationwide had been recognized as meeting new-style rural area standards. The Government has earmarked 660 million USD to national target programs this year. The meeting in Hanoi was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, who is also Chairman of the Central Steering Committee on National Target Programs.
