Vietnam’s track and field wins first ASIAD gold medal

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnamese long jumper Bui Thi Thu Thao won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, Vietnam’s second gold medal at the competition.

This was the first gold medal for Vietnam’s track and field team at any Asian Games. Thao’s jump of 6.55m surpassed Neena Varakil of India, who took silver, and Xiaoling Xu of China, who won bronze. For her achievement Thao was awarded 4,400 USD by the Voice of Vietnam.

By 8:30pm on Tuesday, Vietnam stood 20th at the Games with two gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals. China was in first place with 94 gold medals, followed by Japan and South Korea.
