(VOVworld) – At least 212 people were killed as suspected gunmen of the Islamist extreme group Boko Haram attacked Maiduguri on Friday to rescue the group soldiers being kept by the army. Among the death were 5 army soldiers and 202 members of the Boko Haram group. People were able to capture many combatants of the group during the fights and gave them to the army. Maiduguri is the capital of Borno state which is considered the hot spot of continuous attacks by Boko Haram rebels. This state has been put in emergency situation since last May. Borko Haram, listed as foreign terrorists by the US, started their rebel activities in 2009 with the goal to establish an Islamic State in northern Nigeria.
