WB, IMF pledge to support Vietnam’s development

(VOVWORLD) - The World Bank (WB) will continue to help Vietnam achieve its development goals, WB Chief Executive Officer Kristalina Georgieva told Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue at a meeting in Washington on Tuesday.

She urged Vietnam to focus investment in human resources, health care, climate change response, and water resource management. The WB will consider fiscal measures suitable for Vietnam, and WB agencies are ready to hold working sessions with Vietnamese partners to realize programs and plans, she said. 

Mr. Hue called on the WB to continue its role in the development of the Mekong Sub-region and become a primary development partner of the Cambodia-Vietnam-Laos development triangle mechanism. He applauded the bank for recommending more investments in human resources. 

Deputy Prime Minister Hue also met with Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mitsuhiro Furusawa, who pledged to continue providing technical support and policy consultations to Vietnam. He urged Vietnam to speed up the reform and modernization of its monetary policies, consolidate its fiscal policies, make exchange rates more flexible, and promote the private sector.
