World Bank releases report on aging population in East Asia and Pacific region

(VOVworld) – On Monday, the World Bank released its report on the aging population in the East Asia and Pacific region. The World Bank country director in Vietnam, Victoria Kwakwa, said an aging population was one of the burning issues in the region. This is the time for regional countries, including Vietnam, to coordinate and share experiences to deal with the situation. The World Bank proposed to adjust and build a proper social security policy, improve the pension system and urged more attention to primary health care.

Vietnam was listed among countries with an aging population in 2015. The number of people over 65 in Vietnam is forecast to increase from 6.3 million to 18 million by 2040, accounting for 18 percent of its population.
