World leaders send New Year’s messages for 2018

(VOVWORLD) - Russian President Vladimir Putin called for pragmatic and long-term cooperation with the US in a New Year message to Donald Trump on Saturday.

In a telegram message, Mr. Putin underlined the improtance of Russia-US relations, which he said should be on the basis of equality and mutual respect.  The Russian President told Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a new year’s greeting that Russia will continue supporting Syria’s efforts to defend its sovereignty and continue the political reconciliation process.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said Sunday that he is ready to Putin in consolidating political and strategic mutual trust, and expanding bilateral pragmatic cooperation. He said China intends to promote international strategic coordination with Russia, and to new fruits in the development of bilateral ties. Noting that 2018 and 2019 will be the years of cooperation and exchanges between the two countries at local levels, Xi said the events will surely boost local exchanges of two countries and popularize the idea that the two sides share an eternal friendship and pursue development and prosperity.
