The nine-day trip is sponsored by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnamese Navy.

At a pre-departure ceremony, delegation leader and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee Bui Quang Huy said the program has stirred the patriotism of the participants, helped them understand the hardships faced by the soldiers on the islands, and made them more aware of their responsibility for defending Vietnam's sovereignty over its sea and islands.

The youth delegation, which includes scholars, businesspeople, students, artists, and reporters, will experience the life of the naval officers who safeguard national sovereignty at sea day and night. They will visit several islands in the Truong Sa archipelago and the DK1 platform - an important economics-science-service complex - and deliver gifts to the local soldiers and other residents.
