Tran Trung Dung, outstanding youth role model

(VOVworld) – The 7th National Congress of the Vietnam Youth Federation for the 2014-2019 period took place last week. Many of the 800 delegates are outstanding youth role models for overcoming difficulties to improve themselves and generate jobs in their localities. One of them is Tran Trung Dung of Dong Thinh hamlet, Dong Tho commune, Tuyen Quang province. Nguyen Hien reports:

Dung’s way of doing business is considered an effective economic model in Tuyen Quang province. Dung used to do many jobs to earn a living but none made him a rich man. In 2006 he decided to return home and study the soil and climate there to seek an appropriate economic model. In the beginning he chose to breed cobras but due to a lack of techniques the snakes grew slowly and the income was not much. Dung said: “Raising cobras is dangerous but if you study their habits it will be safe. There is a high demand for cobras in the market and this reptile does not have many diseases.”

After 8 years of hard work his nest of snakes grew to 100, turning out approximately 5,000 USD a year. In addition to cobras Dung has been raising fish and growing sugar cane and acacia. His annual revenue is estimated at 15,000 USD. Dung’s farm now employs 10 workers who earn 150 USD a month. Dung said: “I have borrowed 7,500 USD from the Central Youth Union’s National Fund for Job Generation. I will invest the money in raising 100 more cobras and 1,000 fish to create more jobs.”

Dung has been helping others to enrich themselves by providing them with techniques and breeding stock. Au Van Ta, Youth Unuon Secretary of Dong Tho commune, said many young people from adjacent areas have come to study Dung’s economic model as a way to reduce poverty: “Most people want a place in society after graduation but Dung created his own economic model. He wants to show others that there is no need to go elsewhere and that with hard work anyone can enrich themselves.”

Dung said that attending the congress of the Vietnam Youth Federation was an honor and an opportunity to share ideas with other outstanding youths from across Vietnam.
