Dien Bien Phu Victory museum

(VOVWORLD) - The 56 days and nights of the Dien Bien Phu campaign and the Vietnamese army’s heroic struggle against French colonialists are highlighted at the Dien Bien Phu Victory museum. In the days marking the 65th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, May 7, the museum attracts many visitors intent to learn about the historic victory.

Dien Bien Phu Victory museum

War veteran Duong Hong Tu travelled 700 kilometers from Nghe An province to visit the Dien Bien Phu museum. All the documents and objects displayed at the museum reminded him of fierce battlefield at Dien Bien Phu: “I was so moved when visiting the museum. The documents and objects reminded me of the great sacrifice of our predecessors for the sake of national independence.”

The Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum was rebuilt from an older museum, which was established in 1984 in Muong Thanh district, Dien Bien city. Covering 22,000 square meters, the museum has about 1,000 objects divided into different exhibitions featuring the strategic locations of Dien Bien Phu, the enemy's scheme at Dien Bien Phu, the Party's guidelines regarding preparations for the Dien Bien Phu campaign, the impact of the Dien Bien Phu victory at home and abroad, and present-day Dien Bien Phu. The museum is tremendously important in helping visitors to better understand the glorious history of the Vietnamese nation. Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Mo, head of SOS Dien Bien Phu kindergarten, in Dien Bien province, said: “We hope that through objects at the museum, the children will know more about Vietnam’s history, thus nurturing their patriotism and national pride.”

The museum has about 1,000 objects, featuring the Vietnamese army’s heroic struggle against French colonialists

The Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum always focuses on communicating the importance of historical knowledge in attracting more visitors. Nguyen Linh Hong, a guide at the museum, said: “We always try our best to introduce visitors to the globally-shaking Dien Bien Phu victory. With the historical objects and documents on display and our stories, we hope to help people better understand the fierceness of the fight, engage with the spirit of the Dien Bien Phu victory, and inspire patriotism in the Vietnamese people”.

LED TV screens were installed for film screening, and research purposes. More items have also been added and information about the museum has been disseminated to attract more visitors. Vu Nam Hai, Director of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum, said: “In order to prepare for the 65th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, we have added new items, including a panoramic mural meticulously recounting the Dien Bien Phu battle. We have also set up 3D film screening rooms to help visitors get a better sense of the Dien Bien Phu victory.”
