Addressing the launch ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong said this year’s contest has an open topic which provokes the imagination of young participants. The topic is popular as participants can freely write about one person whom they look up to their life such as their idols, legendary figures or loved ones.

Nguyen Thi Bach Duong, a 14-year-old student from the Nguyen Trai Junior High School, Hai Duong province was presented with the third prize at last year’s international letter-writing competition.

The International Letter-Writing Competition For Young People was launched globally by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Vietnam became a member of the UPU in 1976 and has taken part in the UPU letter-writing contest since 1987.
