The Czech-Vietnamese dictionary was granted the second prize while its co-authors Czech linguistic Professor Ivo Vasiljev and Nguyen Quyet Tien received the council’s honorary certificates.

The dictionary comprises six volumes targeting Vietnamese expatriates and Czech people who want to learn Vietnamese. The dictionary set is considered a bilingual encyclopedia, as it covers a wide range of subjects, including society, culture, history, biography, and geography.

To date, three of the six volumes have been published. Nguyen Quyet Tien said the award will be a great encouragement of him and Professor Ivo Vasiljev to complete the remainder volumes.

Tien said “it’s an honor of not only the authors but the entire Vietnamese community, especially when the Vietnamese have been recognized an ethnic group in the Czech Republic. The dictionary set helps us affirm our position in the host country.”

Initiated a decade ago, the fourth volume of the dictionary is scheduled to debut this November.
