Ha Long hosts 2013 Carnival with extravagant opening ceremony

(VOVworld) - The annual Ha Long Carnival opened in Ha Long city in Quang Ninh province on Saturday to promote local tourism potential. The carnival’s street show is expected to draw more than 5,000 local artists, models and dancers, and art troupes from China, Laos and the Republic of Korea, together with a parade of six flower carriages featuring Quang Ninh’s tourism resources. Traditional dances of ethnic Dao people were recreated in the carnival to reflect wishes for a successful crop. Head of the festival’s organizing board, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, said:“This year’s carnival results from efforts by local people and artists. We select Bai Chay tourist site as the festival show location to offer an open space festival for visitors to explore".

A local resident, Do Trong Binh, expressed his thought about the festival:“Local people are proud to be part of this major event. There are scores of amateur artists who had practiced days and nights to ensure a successful festival. This is a great opportunity for Quang Ninh to demonstrate its tourism and cultural potentials.”

The carnival included a trade fair featuring high-quality Vietnamese products, household goods and tourism services and coincided with the 50th founding anniversary of the province.
