Prof. Salmon quoted Oxford Economics data as saying that since 2010, Vietnam’s mobile internet sector has grown far beyond the average level among countries of similar income, created an output worth 3.7 billion USD -  6.4% of Vietnam’s total GDP in this period - and generated 137,000 jobs.

Oxford Economics predicted that the mobile subscription rate in Vietnam will almost double to nearly 80% by 2020, which is expected to match the forecast subscription rate for the entire Southeast Asia region. The expansion of the mobile internet will result in more than 146,000 new jobs by 2020, 3.2% of total employment growth.
