Phong Nha-Ke Bang Park gets 2nd UNESCO recognition as world heritage

(VOVworld)- Quang Binh province held a ceremony held on Friday in Dong Hoi city to receive the 2nd UNESCO Certificate on recognition of Phong Nha Ke Bang Park as a World Heritage.

UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Thi Bich Lien presented the certificate to Quang Binh leaders.

The ceremony was followed by a firework display which opened the Quang Binh Cave Festival 2015. Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked local authorities to pay more attention to preserve biodiversity, cultural and historical values, and integrity of the heritage: “Relevant ministries and sectors and scientists need to continue to work with Quang Binh province to preserve and develop the Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park sustainably. We also need to effectively respond to UNESCO World Heritage Committee’s recommendations on preservation in order to improve people’s lives and promote Quang Binh’s tourism development”.
The Quang Binh Cave Festival will feature a wide range of tourist and cultural activities and will last through August 20.
