Red Sunday blood donation campaign launched simultaneously in cities

(VOVWORLD) - The “Red Sunday” blood donation campaign this year, the 11th of its kind, began on Sunday across Vietnam.

1,000 young people participated in the campaign in Danang to donate 600 blood units. Nguyen Manh Dung, Vice Secretary of the Danang municipal Youth Union, said: “The ‘Red Sunday’ campaign encourages people to donate more blood to help treat more patients. All donors share the same idea that each drop of given-out blood can save a life.”

The municipal Youth Union took this occasion to honor 35 outstanding groups in blood donation. Duong Hoan Vu of Hai Chau district, one of the honorees, told VOV: “I’m very happy to participate in this meaningful event. Thanks for it, my blood can save many patients. I hope that more and more people will do the same.”

The event in Ho Chi Minh City attracted 3,000 students, teachers, and workers. Donor Le Quoc Huong, a student of Van Hien University, said: “This is the third time I have participated in this meaningful blood donation drive. Donating blood to save lives is a must-do to young people. The number of donors is growing year after year.”

Under the “Red Sunday” campaign, 70 donation centers will be operated nationwide until the end of January to collect around 50,000 blood units, half of the blood demand for medical treatment all over Vietnam in the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
