The event is part of activities to mark the World Ocean Day 2018 on June 8th.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha called on 28 coastal cities and provinces to cooperate in protecting marine environment.

Mr. Ha underscored the importance of pursuing ASEAN’s stance on ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation, and tackling the East Sea issue based on respect of international law while effectively responding to climate change and rising sea levels.

He said: “Vietnam will take the lead in promoting initiatives and international cooperation agreements and participating in the settlement of issues in regards to plastic waste floating in the territorial waters of East Asia as well as oceans. We will design sustainable production and consumption models to deal with plastic waste.”

An array of activities will be organized during the week, including a gala night, song-writing contest on Vietnamese seas and islands, and a talk highlighting the role of youths in national sovereignty protection.
