On Sunday, Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Information and Communications and the executive board of the city’s Book Street launched a week in response to the day. Apart from a book exhibition featuring romantic literature in the early 20th century, seminars were held to highlight the importance of old books and the hobby of collecting books. Another highlight of the week is two auction sales to raise funds to develop the reading culture for children in remote areas.

Quach Thu Nguyet, a member of the executive board of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Book Street, said: “We want to develop a community of book lovers and create a place for them. We want to inspire love for books via activities held not only on the Book Day on April 21st but also throughout the year.”

In response to Vietnam Book Day and the World Book and Copyrights Day on April 23rd, Hung Yen province held a reading day on Sunday themed ‘reading book brings you knowledge’. A book-based drawing contest attracted more than 100 pupils to join, who showed their love to the homeland, seas and islands, and the national cultural heritage.
