Vietnam contributes to APEC trade ministers' meeting

(VOVworld) – The 19th APEC Trade Ministers Meeting under the theme “Resilient Asia – Pacific: Engine of global growth”, took place in Indonesia over the weekend. The host country initiated three top goals for cooperation in its action program as APEC President for 2013. The goals include pursuing the Bogor goals, stepping up regional connectivity, and promoting sustainable and equal growth. The Ministers adopted a joint statement to support a multilateral trade system through the ninth WTO Ministerial Conference in Bali, Indonesia in December.

Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy in regional and global economic integration, voiced Vietnam’s support for the World Trade Organization, and the determination to soon conclude the Doha talks. He underlined that Vietnam gives priority to the APEC cooperative contents regarding the connection of supply chains, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and infrastructure development. Vietnam put forward several proposals at the event such as generating favorable conditions for support industries and sharing experience in capital allocation for the development of renewable energies.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Hoang held bilateral talks with ministers and heads of delegations of several major economies, including Russia, the US, China, South Korea, and Canada. The meetings aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in handling economic, trade and industrial issues between Vietnam and its partners, while accelerating the negotiations and implementation of FTAs.
