(VOVWORLD) - A meeting in response to World AIDS Day 2018 was held in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday. Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said 2018 is the 10th year Vietnam recorded results in controlling HIV/AIDS.

The new infections, the number of HIV carriers turning into AIDS patients, and deaths from AIDS have all declined. About 131,000 patients are undergoing ARV treatment and 54,000 people are provided with Methadone medication. Every year, Vietnam reports 8,000 new HIV cases and 3,000 to 4,000 die of HIV/AIDS.
The National Action Month of HIV/AIDS Prevention this year aims to obtain the goals of 90% of people with HIV getting to know their status, 90% of all HIV-positive persons provided with antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 90% of those treated by 2020.
Nguyen Anh Phong, a representative from the Vietnam HIV-carriers Network, said: “The message “leaving no one behind” is a foundation of our organization to help HIV carriers to live confidently and have stable health to receive treatment. People, who have not received HIV diagnosis and test, will have access to a safe and friendly medical environment.”
