With this event, Vietnam became one of the first countries worldwide to have successfully tested the 5G network. The first call was recorded with Viettel's 5G network connection speed with 1.5-1.7 Gbps terminal, far exceeding the theoretical limit of the LTE 4G network, equivalent to the fiber-optic cable commercial speed.

"Many countries and network providers want to pilot the 5G network and this made it challenging for Vietnam to step ahead in this arena without proper preparations. We made a decision from early last year that we must take the lead in this field and to that end we made thorough preparations. The Ministry of Information and Communications granted us the 5G test license in January and since then we have done a lot to look for suitable technologies and partners for today’s event," said Tao Duc Thang, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group.

Viettel will continue to expand the test run of the 5G mobile network in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
