Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of nuclear non-proliferation, considering it not only a national responsibility but also a duty to the international community. To fulfill this commitment, Vietnam has taken part in international conventions on nuclear security and non-proliferation. Vietnam approved an additional protocol on nuclear supervision, a common convention on the safe management of nuclear waste and used nuclear fuel and completed a program to transfer from high to low enriched uranium at the nuclear research center in Da Lat. The 3-day conference focuses on the development of nuclear power in Vietnam, the prospects for nuclear development in Southeast Asia, the progress of the emerging countries in the context of global nuclear power as well as strategies to deal with any incidents at nuclear power plants.
