Regarding Vietnam’s foreign affairs, President Sang said 2011 was the first year Vietnam implemented resolutions of the 11th National Party Congress. The Congress defined that Vietnam wants to be a friend and reliable partners of countries in the world for peace, mutual benefits, cooperation and development. President Truong Tan Sang said “First, efforts should be made to strengthen politics, foreign relations and trust between Vietnam and related partners. Exchange of visits in particular and the comprehensive implementation of foreign policy were fruitful last year. Despite the global economic recession, Vietnam’s relations with countries, corporations and companies in the world increased, stemming from Vietnam’s correct and appropriate foreign policy plus the country’s  internal strength”.

Mentioning foreign trade, the President said Vietnam has broadened trade and investment relations with the rest of the world. Last year, Vietnam was able to curb inflation and stabilize the macro-economy with a GDP growth rate of 6%. Mr. Sang added Vietnam’s successful foreign policy helped safeguard national sovereignty and maintain peace for national industrialization and modernization.

As Head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, President Sang described judicial reform improvement as an important task in the near future. The 11th National Party Congress stressed the building of judicial system, capable of protecting the regime and human rights. To do so, the President urged for a review of related policies, capacity building and the adoption of appropriate mechanism to produce further results.

State President Truong Tan Sang said this year Vietnam should make full use of advantages and overcome difficulties to further develop the nation: “In the context of complicated situation in the world last year, Vietnam made certain efforts, which brought about encouraging results. We should pay attention to socio-economic stabilization.  Past achievements were attributable to our correct policies and directions”.

The President said 2011 achievements will create preconditions for Vietnam to successfully carry out its goal of industrialization and modernization.
