An article published in the “New Germany” newspaper on Thursday said that in recent days Western media have compared General Vo Nguyen Giap to the world’s most famous generals. The author said General Giap’s military purpose was not to conquer or oppress other nations but to put a stop to foreign occupation of his homeland. Germany’s “Young World” newspaper ran a long article about the affection the Vietnamese showed for the General at the farewell ceremony held at his final resting place. Germany’s online newspapers also published stories and pictures praising General Giap.
